2023 Workshops

You can find the workshop program for the 2023 Istanbul Street Photo Festival below.

 

All street events, as in the previous year, will be free of charge and limited to a small number of participants (up to 6 people). The meeting point for street events is the Orient Express Restaurant located inside Sirkeci Train Station.

Presentation events have a capacity of 40 people. Presentations will be held at the Artizan Sanat.

 

Please register only for the workshop you are interested in. Due to limited capacity, each person is allowed to attend a maximum of 1 workshop.

16 October – İlker Şimşekcan Workshop

Topic: The Decisive Moment: Street Photography Through the Eyes of Henri Cartier-Bresson – (Turkish)

About: After the theoretical explanation, walking and taking photos to reinforce the knowledge.

17 October – Payman Hazheer Workshop

Topic: Street Portraits – (English)

About: We will learn how to capture captivating street portraits. The first lesson will focus on how to approach and frame subjects. We will be in a small group, allowing me to demonstrate, coach, and address your questions.

18 October / 20 October – Maurits Van Hout Workshop

Topic: Pearls of Istanbul – (English)

About: Getting an interesting view of Istanbul’s daily life, and understanding what street photography is about.

We take public transportation and go to Balat for a session of 2 hours. After that we have lunch. We take the boat to the other side of the Bosporus and have a short walk to Moda. This session of street photography ends at sunset. In Moda, we will try to use the light of the sunset (shadows/low sun). We finish the day with a drink somewhere in Moda.

An Istanbul card with at least 200 TL on it.
Money for lunch and a drink (2000 TL max).
A camera with the possibility of adjusting the aperture and shutter speed manually.
If available a camera with a full frame chip (35 mm).
A lens with a reach of ( 17-35 mm) non full-frame (or separate lenses 17 + 35 mm).
A lens with a reach of 28-50 mm or more Full frame, or separate lenses 28 mm + 50 mm.

Topic: Candid Street: Getting Closer – (English)

About: How to get closer to people in street photography.

Topic: Feeling The Street. Street Photography As A Journey Of Self-Discovery – (English)

About: The workshop is for people who are just beginning their street photography experience and struggling to find their personal style. Through the eyes of great street photographers and then together on the street, the aim of the workshop is to raise questions that will be the starting point for new discoveries and explorations.
